NCF’s Research Officer, Shamsa Hussain delivered an Oral statement on children in conflict zones to the 46th session of the UNHCR. Shamsa urges all UN Security Member states to repatriate their nationals in the Syrian camps that house ISIS members, allowing the children under their guardianship to be protected from the violence, harassment and radicalization that they are exposed to in the camps. This is not only a responsibility but a legal requirement, as all but three member states have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Under this convention children have a right to life, development and survival; and are protected against violence, abuse and neglect. UN Security Council Member states should take a lead in repatriating, rehabilitating and reintegrating these children, who are the forgotten generation of the Syrian War.
