The Media Credibility Index for 2025 will be published by the Policy Studies Organisation in Washington in Mid November 2025 and will include analysis of at least 100 key Media outlets (press and broadcasting) for at least the prior year. It will have at least 300 recorded incidents of best and worst practice, scoring media outlets on the basis of best practice and worst practice, in accordance with issues raised in the following areas:
- PRESS FREEDOM
- ACCURACY – the use of facts, data, and well sourced material
- INCITEMENT – racist, xenophobic or provocative reporting
- BIAS or BALANCE
- SENSITIVITY – consideration of women’s rights, civil rights, children’s rights (with regard to exposure to violent imagery)
- TRANSPARENCY – no hidden agenda
Plus points are awarded for accurate reporting regardless of intimidation or censorship; minus points are recorded for reporting that, we believe, is cause for concern. The Media Credibility Index reflects issues raised and issues we have researched. We, the editors, will try, in so much as is humanly possible, to be subjective. The editors will be named as will be those who have contributed substantially with more than fifty recorded items contributed to the index.
The Founding Editors are William Morris LL.D., Secretary General of the Next Century Foundation, and Mr Jaafar El-Ahmar, Head of the Next Century Foundation UK. Contributing Editors: Henry Jeong (Canada), Isabelle Taylor (UK), Paula Messa (UK), Klara Ismail (UK), Cristina De Leo (Italy).

ABC News (Australia) – 2
BIAS:
15 September 2024: ABC’s news director, Justin Stevens, admitted a video clip of Australian troops firing from a helicopter in Afghanistan was “incorrectly edited”. Channel Seven accused the ABC of adding gunshot sounds to a video which accompanied a story produced by the ABC’s special investigations unit, headed by Jo Puccini and award-winning reporter Mark Willacy. Seven’s Spotlight program broadcast an interview with former commando Heston Russell about the ABC’s reporting on him. Raw footage of the incident shows that one shot from a helicopter became six shots in the ABC video. WM

15 November 2024: Iker Jiménez, a Spanish television presenter known for his show Horizonte on Mediaset, spread unverified information about the aftermath of the DANA storm in Valencia. On his program and social media, he claimed that “many, many bodies” were found in the underground parking lot of the Bonaire shopping centre, despite the lack of official confirmation. This misinformation, later debunked by authorities who confirmed no fatalities in the parking area, was part of a broader network of fake news that fuelled a significant explosion of misinformation surrounding the floodings. The wave of unverified claims spread across social media and other platforms, undermining trust in official sources and complicating relief efforts.
The day after it was reported that no bodies had been found during the inspection, TV presenter Iker Jiménez posted on X addressing the fake news he had spread. He clarified that there had been no fatalities in the Bonaire parking lot and stated that his sources had been wrong. CDL

The implication is that factors such as Brexit and the election of a Labour government have increased the trend. In the first place it is questionable as to whether the UK, with a population of around 68 million actually has half a million millionaires (it would mean that at the very least one in every 200 was a millionaire). FOX NEWS (USA) – 5
ACCURACY:
11 September 2024: Fox news has diligently reported statements made by former President Donald Trump during the recent presidential debates, quoting him but never correcting false statements he has made. For example, during a debate he made the assertion that Democrats wanted to allow pregnancies to be terminated in the ninth month. He went further to state that “in other words, we’ll execute the baby,”. Fox news did not follow this with the critical information that US law does not allow for the execution of babies or that abortions in the third trimester are extremely rare with less than 1% of abortions occurring after 21 weeks, often under extreme circumstances. They instead concluded that Trump’s comments “show Democrats are the true “radicals” on the abortion issue”, thus indirectly affirming what he said. At the end of the article Fox news quoted the moderator for the debate, Linsey Davis, who responded that “there is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born”. This final remark appears to have been added as an afterthought and was not linked to Trump’s statement or used to counter his false information. The inability for this television channel to provide a full picture of the presidential candidates’ policies and statements is evidence that it lacks accuracy. IT
23 September 2024: Fox news published an article on Israel’s strikes in Hezbollah. The figures that it published for the injured and number of deaths were largely inaccurate. On Monday 23rd at 7.23 am EST, Fox news reported that over ‘180 people’ were killed in Lebanon and over ‘700 injured’, whilst multiple other newspapers have been reporting the figures to be considerably higher than this. For example, at 5.41 am IST in Israel Haaretz was already reporting a death toll of 256 and by the time of the Fox News report BBC news and the Daily Telegraph were reporting that the death toll was over 480. LM
INCITEMENT:
28th September 2024: Fox News echoed comments made by Former President Trump during a speech in Wisconsin in which he repeatedly referred to “migrant crime” being a problem in the area. This term has been used throughout his presidential campaign to associate migration with crime and consequently fear. The news network made no attempt to inform their readers of the many inaccuracies and false implications that this term brings. Consequently, they have participated in incitement. IT

5 October 2024: In a video report, Al Jazeera spoke to over a dozen journalists covering the Israeli-Palestine conflict including BBC and CNN. Journalists from both outlets describe a repeated failure to report the conflict with accuracy and sensitivity. Overall, the Al Jazeera report accuses Western media outlets of:
(1) A lack of fact-checking – 6:53-9:20 – False CNN report about Al-Rantisi children’s hospital claimed to be a Hamas base. As evidence, a Hamas “roster” of shifts was shown to CNN’s reporter, Nick Robertson, a document on the wall of the hospital which was actually just a calendar of days of the week – Daniel Hagari was interviewed on site and believed without CNN translating the document.
(2) Conveying dehumanising Palestinian narratives – 15:43 – A study by The Intercept of post-October 7 coverage by NY Times, Washington post and LA times found that Israeli deaths were covered on average 16 times more often than Palestinian deaths. The word “slaughter” was used at a 60:1 rate for Israelis over Palestinians, while “massacre” was used at a 62:1 rate for Israelis over Palestinians.
